Just wanted to let you all know I’ll be heading to Florida for the weekend so i won’t be posting for a few days. In the meantime, here are a few tips to help you save money while on vacation.
Stay in Vacation Rentals- I know, as a VRBO.com employee, I am biased, but vacation rentals are a great way to go. You can stay in a house or condo with a kitchen, washer and dryer, and many other amenities for less than you could a hotel. Check out Vacation Rentals By Owner or HomeAway for huge selections of vacation rentals.
Pack a lunch- Especially with a family, making your food at home is a great way to save money on vacation. Eating out adds up quickly, especially if you’re visiting locations that are designed for tourists.
Search for Deals- Plan the activities you’d like to do ahead of time and do some research on the internet. If you look, you’re bound to find coupons and other discounts that will save you a few bucks when you get there. The best results usually come if you search by the location you’re visiting.
Go with a group- If you plan your vacation with other friends and family you can often times save more money through group discounts and splitting lodging and food costs.
Sign up for newsletters- Sign up for several newsletters that offer travel deals. I am signed up with both airlines and travel sites and I get some great deals in my inbox. These are especially useful if your time frame is flexible. Many sites that offer airline tickets will also alert you when the fare for your trip goes down or reaches the price you’re looking for.
Skip the attractions- Spending your day at the beach can be just as much fun as spending the day at the amusement park. Try and find activities to enjoy with your family that are free or inexpensive. Be creative, your family may have more fun without spending money, especially when you’re not stressing over the price.
