Liquidation Sales Aren’t What They Seem

By Brent | Nov 25, 2008

I just saw a report on Good Morning America about these “Going Out of Business Sales” that we all see the ads for. Linens N’ Things and Circuit City are two of the bigger names that have closed stores lately and it turns out, the “bargains” that they are giving aren’t bargains at all.

These stores use liquidation companies that come in with one goal, to make as much money as they can. They actually raise the prices before giving you the advertised discounts. The percentage discounts that they advertise in store and using signholders on the street corner are actually off the higher price. In some cases they found items that were clearanced previously and were selling for over 200% of the clearance price. I thought this was very important for consumers to know so you should definately check out this article on the Good Morning America’s site entitled Going-Out-of-Business Sales Not Such a Bargain
