Staying Fit on a Budget

By Brent | Dec 1, 2008

I saw this video on YouTube and it reminded me that staying fit is very important, even when money is tight. I’ll admit, I can be as lazy as they come,  but I have to workout some times and when I can do it at home for not a lot of money, even better! The video has a few ideas for working out on a budget, but here are a few more that may help you stay in shape.

Go Old School- Push-ups, Sit-ups, jumping jacks, lunges, all the exercises you did in gym class are great ways of staying in shape. Just getting yourself active and using your muscles is a great way to start.

Get Online- There are tons of exercise videos online that you can access for free that will show you some yoga techniques, pilates, whatever type of exercise you enjoy.

Buy Some Basics- You can spend a little money on some basic equipment that will help a lot. Small hand weights or weight sets are very inexpensive. You can even get on a site like Craigslist for next to nothing. The elastic bands they mention in the video are great. Fitness balls can offer a great workout. A pullup bar that goes in your doorway can really help with your upper body. A basic elliptical, treadmill, or stationary bike can be a great investment, if you’ll use it.

Whatever method you decide works best for you, the most important part is just doing it. Getting off the couch a few times each week will make a difference and help keep you healthy. Make it part of your New Year’s resolution and commit to it.
